Thanks haka. I wasn't aware of Qld govt plans to increase the royalty. This is a negative. I wonder how much the increase will be.
On the positive side, royalty payments are a deduction for company tax purposes (so there is a partial offset). For example, if CRN pays $100 additional royalty to Qld Govt, then CRN pays $30 less company tax (assuming a 30 per cent rate) to the Australian Govt compared to no royalty increase. Therefore, the net cost to CRN of the royalty increase of $100 is $70.
