    The way the UK moved away from coal was via a combination of :

    Gas (40% of power capacity today),
    Nuclear (18%)
    Wind & Solar (20%), Hydro (2%)
    Bioenergy (10%)
    Imports (8%)
    Other (2%)

    Presumably the reason you've cited the UK is because you feel it might serve as some sort of a benchmark in terms of emissions reductions.

    So you reckon it would be OK if Australia looked to gas and nuclear for its base load generation, as the UK has done?

    Because there are some special interest groups that populate this here forum that would take great issue with that notion.
