I reckon the Americans are funding the Malaysian opposition party in an effort to force LYC into liquidation.
Bond holders are mainly US. If they can pick up the company cheaply the US - with MolyCorp - will hold the only serious rare earths supply outside of China.
Exactly the sort of behavior I'd expect from US predator funds.
Just my view.
