    Opel24v,

If TZL was a bad choice, then what are the implications regarding Mark Bouris? He is a famous businessperson and teaches business at UNSW. Surely he did his DD and has been with them long enough to turn it around. I reckon the media have been gentle with him regarding TZL.

"The problem with MG's style of investing is that it's based on hindsight , very little research and lots of luck."

I have been experimenting, so I don't have a 100% settled style of investing. But I have 5 daytrading/short-term rules that are working, and some long-term miner rules.

    "I prefer ABDM'S approach…"

Abdm has had some losers too.

"I suspect that some of these "experts" are actually company directors or relatives in disguise, who would of course be very knowledgeable and very biased. I've seen several directors post on HC openly, and I'm willing to bet that for every one of those there are 10 others doing it anonymously. I dont think this is the case for OBJ though, as our directors dont need to raise capital nor have any sp-related performance bonuses and hence have not shown much interest in promoting the company."

Agreed. Good warning. I could name one gold miner for certain, and it crashed shockingly. A laundry list of lies and some big names fell for it.

"You need to have contrarian views on these forums to try to achieve some balance."

Exactly. When you visit threads on stocks that you're not particularly keen on, you can really see the inappropriate reactions to "negative" posters. And being a daytrader sharpens your perspective - you know for sure the stock is going down, but the keen ones believe the opposite. So you see they are not objective and should not be listened too. And so far the negative posters have been right 9 out of 10 times in the stocks that I have been interested in. Nevertheless, people have different motivations for participating, and that's fair enough. They can just ignore those that don't give them what they are looking for.

    makattack,

"Sometimes researching too hard makes you emotional and attached."

Yep. I don't believe in much of the research posted here because I suspect a lack of objectivity. YMMV. Of course, some great stuff has been shared by the researchers.

"one has to wonder with the extreme lack of announced progress, whether OBJ (and us shareholders) is just being strung along by its partners. Time is of the eseence and the lack of feedback makes me wonder what is realy going on behind the scenes."

I can quite easily imagine a partner finding an alternative tech. As time drags on, the number of competitive techs must increase. Just imagine the new techs that are going to appear over the next 5 or 10 years!

"I think MG controls his sentiment in posts well and discusses the stock not the people on the thread, their are a lot out there that don't."

Thanks for your comment. I'm glad some people notice. Phew.

    abdm,

My idea of contrarian is buy when the market is selling and vice versa. OBJ certainly seems to be at its medium-term bottom. So it's certainly a contrarian candidate.

I haven't researched value investing, but I'm a bit sceptical of people naming famous examples. You might get 100 doing exactly what Warren Buffett did, and maybe 79 did badly, 20 did okay, and 1 did extremely well. In other words, it could have been luck, and that lucky one gets promoted as a genius. You need to do a lot of research to find the truth of the matter. Maybe that research has been done - I haven't looked into it.

    cmk1969,

    "like-minded attract!"

    Yes.

"if was looking for a reality check on Hotcopper I certainly wouldn't look in the direction of MG."

I have been right a number of times in the past - confidentiality, Ariel, and other minor points, and I think I'm right about e-cell. I think it would be healthy to admit that. YMMV.

    Ramses,

Hey, I really liked that comment. TU from me (but we have many thumb-downers here on OBJ threads, so it didn't show). And I got a laugh from this insight:

" At present we are the red headed geek with braces trying to chat up a supermodel, hoping she will come home with us for a night of unbridled passion. common sense tells us the supermodels have other options than OBJ."

    ;-)

BTW, I saw that you are getting interested in oilers. Seems we have similar tastes - high risk/high return. Many of the failed experts I mentioned above were oilers. To get it right, I reckon you have to be a geologist specialising in oil and also have experience in the region where the company is exploring. Drilling dusters (happens 9 out of 10 times) hits the sp hard, so it's good to have SMS alerts so you can sell quick. JIMO. YMMV.
