All I can say is that I spent much of my working life involved in getting the best that was on offer for the RAAF. We had to convince some real hard-heads at the top of PM&C, Treasury, Finance and DFAT to support purchase of the Hornet fighter in 1981 - against the cheaper F16A that also met all our procurement specs.
I assure you that nobody will ever say that that wasn’t the best decision, and the same has applied to every major Air Force operational capability procurement decision since then. That’s why the current Force is the best equipped technically in the world.
