There's a standing joke in our family about my non-existent girlfriend.
It started when my son and I were at the Boxing Day Test match the year he spent a week at the Michael Clarke Cricket Academy, and my wife suggested I call Clarke's PA Sasha (who also handled the admin of the academy) to see if we could arrange a meet and greet with him. I tried to do it discreetly, but my son heard the tail end of the conversation. "Who was that?" he asked. "My girlfriend..." I replied, not being able to think of anything else. "She lives in Melbourne, and I was hoping to catch up with her while we're here. Don't tell Mum!" Of course he didn't believe me, but after the real story came out, my mythical GF became family folklore.
The other standing joke is that if I ever had an affair, I'd need to get my wife to organise it for me.
