I always find it useful to keep photos of good cloud formations. If you have a good photo but the sky is washed out (i.e. white) or otherwise uninteresting you can always replace it with something more interesting from your stock of clouds using Photoshop Elements, for example.
Telephone/electricity wires usually are a no-no in competition photos and can easily be cloned out.
