The street photo above was taken with a cheap ($170) compact camera. The portrait was taken at Murrayville in NSW as I was traveling though. She was in a cafe and consented to the picture. Camera Nikon D800. It pays to get in close especially with older people as they have interesting wrinkles!
I'll be honest. Photos of just clouds don't usually appeal to me as I like focal points of interest (as do most judges I come across). The eyes of the old lady. The leading lines of the pavements bringing the viewer to the walkers under the umbrella.
I might add, I don't regard myself too highly as a photographer (many in my club are much more capable) but belonging to a club is the best thing I have done to improve my standard. That is the best tip I can give to anyone. However, once you join one you have to develop a thick skin and accept criticism. That's the way we learn.
I will post some more but I have trouble posting some photos on HC and I have no idea why.
