You can trace America's problems to Adam and Eve or to any other happening that took place between then and now.

Using your logic I can ascribe responsibility for the American Civil War, the Spanish American War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War ( American involvement in Vietnam started with Kennedy and intensified with Lyndon B. Johnson) and only god knows what else, to the gold standard.

Of course, that this line of reasoning is fallacious but it is the same as yours
