I understand what you are saying. But upgrading the medicare levy could go a long way to reducing the need for private health cover that is for certain. Particularly in the Dental treatment and elective surgery.

My answer is not in a 100 years will the government cancel the private health care rebate.
No politician is going to cancel or change the Private health care rebate of that Im absolutely certain.
For obvious reasons:
1. The public health care system would collapse under the weight. It isn't coping now and particularly not in Dental or elective surgery, such as knee reconstructions and the like. Millions would not be able to afford Private health care if they stopped the rebate.
2. Any government cutting the Private health rebate would not get elected again. That goes doubly so for the current government. I seem to remember those words "No cuts to public health" or was that "No cuts to
"Medicare" Another broken promise by this government would seem them out for at least 10 years.
