Gold hasn't increased by that much in real terms - currencies buy a lot less these days than 8 years ago.
So gold may have only increased by 200% in 8 years.
The demand is higher - the supply side is decreasing - global mine output can't keep up with demand (no one wants to sell gold including Central banks that are building their reserves).
