Brian, yes, it is happening, but only slowly now. Only the wealthy people and the upper middle class (a very small group, but still at a few millions at least) in China can afford the foreign goods as part of normal living, the majority of the people still consider the imported stuff pricey. It is changing rather rapidly though, I expect in 5 years, there will be massive demand of "fine and imported" products for the average Chinese workers.
Zzup, there are many bus-loads of Chinese tourist in Sydney too, just in case you didn't see them before... They are not just buying the minerals, they are also loading up wines, opel and the seafood from Fish Market. :)
