It wouldn't surprise me if the real reason Penny Wrong and the government do not support low emission technologies was not mentioned!
Renewables at this point and time cannot contribute to base load production,(meaning the ability to contribute at any given time when required). Technologies like the Bluegen can, reducing the amount of electricity generated at coal fired generating sets.
It wouldn't surprise me that the current government have no intention of offending the coal mining unions by supporting a technology that has the potential of greatly reducing generating sets burning coal, and therefore slowly but surely making their position in the industry close to being redundant.
Decentralised power generation on a network scale may sound a bit far fetched, but if you combine generating sources like renewables, low emmision technologies , provide rebates for installing generators at the point of usage onsite(gas powered,not coal) for self needs as required, then the usage of large scale transmission requiring installation,maintenance and upgrades can be greatly reduced!
