This is not some sort of new event that is only happens in todays society
In the 70's was a skinny little runty 13 year old. Caught a train at Bassandean going to Perth.
On the train were a bunch of much bigger a few year older guys who laid in to me for no reason other than I was there.
and this was not an isolated incident and no one stepped in to help.
Population of Perth was probably 1/2 of what it is today so today in proportion you have twice as many scum bags running around.
As for things like post traumatic stress and being a victim, yes no doubt things like this can have a very long adverse affect on a person.
This and other factors had an opposite effect on me, obviously each to their own but if you start seeing yourself as a victim, that is what you will become.
