The post that started this thread from reu was a great post. And this is nothing about Justice Kenneth Martin.
Entertain me drawing a long bow from some of the information if you would.
MZN lawyer Martin Bennett was acting for the Ellison family in the case. Result and press suggests it was a frivolous case. I don't know the details.
The Ellison family are clearly wealthy with 12% of MIN ($200m value) and MIN own 8% of PLS ($40m value). They clearly don't mind having a legal stoush as evidenced by the articles reu mentioned on the strip of land and the corporate blue they had with Pilbara to eventually end up with their holding (PLS were forced to issue them a placement i think - could be wrong). There are probably other cases in the past.
A big broker wrote some research a few weeks ago talking about MIN's lithium production and how they were going to be the biggest producer in the world in the next few years. While I am not smart enough to understand the piece of research it's clear MIN are heavily exposed to the lithium price in the short term and as it's a race to produce while the prices are high and they are obviously going flat out. (selling DSO etc).
MZN may or may not have a case, but it is fact that a lawyer before Mr Bennett had passed on the case saying there was no case to try (mentioned in the recent case?). Enter Mr Bennett to save the day and represent the legally hard done by MZN.
Now MZN don't seem to be flush with cash and in a position where a loss or even appeal would see them solvent in a short period of time. Very high risk strategy for an ASX listed company with responsible directors I am sure you would agree.
Its also clear that the Mt Holland deposit is globally significant. One of the biggest and scope to get a lot bigger. Big resource, good grade and a deal with POS to get in production in the short term. Other wannabe's don't look to have the scale of the Kidman deposit..
Who would benefit in the short to medium term from delaying KDR getting into production? A large lithium producer! Further, who has a clear connection with the MZN legal team?
This is all very speculative and I have no idea (thanks for entertaining my conspiracy theory) but the articles posted by reu just caught my interest.
Maybe Perth is just a small place.
NB. I have not read all the posts if someone else wrote something like this i am sorry.
