    Interesting to see so much agreement here from both the left and right side of political leanings. It seems most Australians can readily see that a rising population can only cause a decrease in the standard of living for all.

    As others have said, the easy way out for governments to fund the ageing demographic is to bring in more people but if one doesn't boost infrastructure to hold them the result is disaster as our major cities are demonstrating.

    It seems reasonable to assume that unless we can find another model other than growth for financial security, limiting population growth could result in a decline of wealth or reduction of services across the board but may be compensated by a better environment.

    What is clear even from these few postings is an unusual unity amongst the HC community. If that is represenataive of the broader community, then the government appears to be out of step in its current immigration policy.
