Kalgoorlie-Boulder Resources is a standout performer on sharply lower Australian share market, soaring after a resource upgrade at its Norseman gold project in Western Australia.

Shares in the Kalgoorlie-based company were 35 per cent higher to 14 cents in intraday trade but settled back to 13 cents at 1534 AEDT, a 30 per cent jump.

Its shares price leapt 50 per cent higher in intraday trade on Wednesday, closing 35.14 per cent higher to 10 cents after the upgrade to its WA resource was announced.

The total resource estimate for the project increased by 20 per cent to 21 million tonnes at 1.7 grams per tonne gold, containing 1.2 million ounces of gold - an improvement in both tonnage and grade.

Chairman Michael Atkins said the upgrade further strengthened the company's confidence in the project and there was considerable scope for further resource additions.

The company is undertaking a scoping study to identify the various development options available at the project.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder Resources acquired the project in December last year through the purchase of all the issued share capital of Australian Gold Investments Ltd.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder Resources' work on the project is the first since its was owned by Canadian miner Kinross Gold, which sold it in 2005.
