Neither goalie is of the quality that Mark Bosnich was, Schwarzer is the better at this stage, has been solid but has shown weaknesses. To get through further Guus needs a top class keeping performance - so he put some pressure on Schwarzer to lift by giving Kalac a game. Who knows, Kalac, who has kept well in the past, may have played out of his skin. He didn't, he had a bad game, unlikely to play the next - that's it.

Mark Viduka has been playing the best that I have seen him play for Australia. His skill level is top tier and he draws two or more defenders nearly every time he gets the ball near goal because of his level of skill. That in itself is enough to have him in the side because it creates openings for guys like Cahill, Bresiciano and Aloisi. I would suggest that his teammates and coach don't think that the captain is giving 60% effort like somebody said.
