Preparation of a new processing facility in Kal - Duratec Limited
Interesting article.
This company has been contracted for several tasks. Article includes one picture of kiln I hadn't seen (may have to scroll).
At the end, they give this quick summary of the Lynas's KAL ops (numbers provided by Lynas, can be found also in "pop-up" presentation at PowerPoint Presentation (lynasrareearths.com)):Facts & figures
- $500 million: Value of Kalgoorlie project, including upgrades at the Malaysia plant
- 290: Positions expected to be created during construction, including direct workforce
- $204 million: Value of output expected to be generated during construction over two years
- 128: New jobs created, bringing Lynas’ Goldfields workforce to more than 200 people
- 400: Increase of direct and indirect positions expected in Goldfields-Esperance region, including direct Lynas employment
- $413 million: Annual increase in Goldfields-Esperance regional output expected once the processing facility is operational
- $200 million: Amount of above increase will be direct output of the project
Ballparking the KAL MREC at 30% NdPr calculates to 40,000 tons total output MREC per annum (=12000tpa/0.3).
Assuming the ~$200 million "direct output" is entirely due to the value of MREC exported to the LAMP; that equates to what was apparently a model-assumed price tag of ~$5000/ton MREC (=200,000,000/40,000)
Bottom Line: The current price of MREC is ~$8000. Every day KAL output gets more valuable!
The success of this project cannot be overstated for Lynas and for ROW. The Malaysian legislation that forced Lynas into this position was not only brutish and unnecessary, it was likely part of the CCPs ongoing efforts to destroy or diminish Lynas. They might have tired of using direct REE price controls, but misinformation and other tactics have continued.
Lynas is doing its utmost to make lemonade from lemons. Successful integration and commission of reconfigured KAL-MAL ops will be like a big middle finger coated with lemon juice popping Xi's eye.
