EOI for Kalgoorlie VBESS opens second half of this year.
AVL CEO Grahman Arvidson had a few things to say about it on Tuesday at Diggers & Dealers (in Kalgoorlie itself).
The first was that in consultation with the WA State Government it was revealed that development of the WA vanadium industry was one of the criteria. That basically limits the tender to AVL and a AVESS/Atlantic pairing. The project is to be “a catalyst for a new vanadium mining, processing and export industry for WA…. to diversify the economy” attribute to Premier Roger Cook.
Another was “the funding and delivery partners that are ready to work with us on Kalgoorlie will make sure that we can deliver a value proposition” from Graham - clearly a lot of planning is already going into the EOI/bid as part of the Lumina works.
I expect AVL to be the sole conforming submission in regards to local content requirements (likely greater than 70% by cost).
With the project being grid connected in 2029, it will be very hard for another player to develop to AVL’s level in time.
