    There are 2 Government data sets, only one of which includes fatalities.

    Mr Lott has formed his opinions on the data set that excludes fatalities and matches his perceptions, not the one that presents facts contrary to his opinions.

    "The NCVS collects information from a nationally representative sample of U.S. households on nonfatal crimes, reported and not reported to the police, against persons age 12 or older."
