Is this an alaskite?

So, these things angle down 45 degrees for 350m+, and the area above the alaskite just hangs there?
Look, I may be completely wrong here, and would be very happy to be corrected, so can someone please tell me what happens to the dirt above the ore body? Just hangs there right? ;-)
