A battle over an iron ore project in the Pilbara, in north-west Western Australia, is getting hotter with another mining company entering the fray.
Junior explorer Cazaly Resources applied in August to work the Shovelanna project east of Mount Newman, after Pilbara Iron and its joint tenement holders let their exploration licence expire.
Gina Rhinehart's company Hanc.ock Prospecting later applied to have the licence extended and lodged an objection to Cazaly's claim.
Now BHP Billiton, which holds neighbouring tenements, has lodged its objection.
Cazaly managing director Nathan McMahon says it has every right to take over the project.
