It is not up to you to tell people they are wrong to hold hope. I've mentioned before that I think holders should abandon hope, but far be it from me to insult them.
People have lost money. People cope differently - including the differing pace of decline in such wishful thinking that they will receive their money back. My wishful thinking was mostly gone before VA, it was completely gone after the bottle of scotch.
You might do well to be quiet now, and stop 'helping'. (Or at the very least, learn what empathy means)
