Done some digging, and it appears an issue has been raised about power transmission capacity available for the Mungari site.
Maybe that's true but I have my doubts. Most of the mines stopped using the state grid many years back and went to the Burrup-Kalgoorlie LNG pipeline. These include KCGM and all of BHPs nickel and gold assets - including the Kambalda Nickel Concentrator and Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter.
If there isn't enough power available in that grid transmission line to Kalgoorlie, its not because it can't hold the capacity, its because the power isn't being put into it at the other end.
I think the whole story is about getting a better deal on price for these new potential users.
