Keating is also judging the actions of one era by the attitudes of a quite different era - today. Anyone who has read about Gallipoli will feel admiration for the young Australian soldiers of the time and will also feel sickened by the callous and inept way in which they were deployed. I think that is what Australians celebrate and I also think you underestimate the young people who go to Gallipoli. I suspect that they understand more than Mr Keeting does.
