    Boff. Yes essentially that's what I'm saying. They were no more or less brave than you or I. Once there and realising for the first time that it was unimaginably ugly and dangerous yeah sure they went over the top. They had no choice. They were terrified of being labelled a coward (another reason for joining up in the first place) or executed for desertion or cowardice. Did you know that the British army executed HUNDREDS of their own soldiers for refusing to fight in WW1???
