Times have changed and cross media rules were probably relevant back in the day as we didn't have other channels like social media, pervasive internet, etc. At this point if we are to have an independent press we need companies with significant scale to compete with the multi national media giants. If deals like this don't go ahead companies like Nine and Fairfax will gradually disappear. Keating is living in the past.
