''Why is Australia signing all these "defense" agreements with countries on the other side of the world? Is it because we are a racist country that only signs agreements with people that look like us? Shouldn't Australia be making peaceful trade agreements with our neighbors in the Asia Pacific region?''

doesn't an understanding that Australia has decades - indeed way over a century of spectacularly visionless governments cover it?

we will not ever get change - people in power do NOT want change

There was a bloke called Vauban who worked out what security meant - hundreds of years ago

some of his philosophies are out of date - but, many of them still stand rock solid

he basically invented security systems which are still used today for national defence - and things like airport security - along with national security in general

Australia's dud sub idea and dependence on the USA goes against every sound principle.

Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, a prominent French military engineer, is recognized not only for his contributions to military fortifications but also for his philosophical approach to strategy and his broader vision that included social and political dimensions as part of national security.
Vauban is often described as a visionary and a humanist who was ahead of his time. He was not just a military engineer but also a philosopher and politician, which is evident in his approach to fortifications and his writings. His work prefigures the Enlightenment philosophers, as he applied a scientific and mathematical vision to reality, which he integrated into his strategic and engineering endeavors[2][3]. Vauban's strategic innovations were not limited to military tactics; he also considered the broader implications of his work on society and governance.
One of Vauban's notable contributions was his concept of a centralized system of strongholds to defend France, which he advocated with insight and realism. This approach was part of a larger vision to create a fortified "iron belt" around France, enhancing national security[5]. His strategies were designed to save lives and resources, as reflected in his mantra, "Burn more powder and shed less blood"[3].
Vauban's philosophical and strategic thinking extended into social and political realms. He was known for his critical views on taxation and social inequality, as demonstrated in his controversial work, "La Dîme Royale" (The Royal Tithe), which criticized the unequal taxation system that favored the upper classes. This work, published shortly before his death, was condemned by the government, highlighting his willingness to challenge the status quo in pursuit of social justice[3].
In summary, Vauban's legacy as a philosophical strategist is marked by his integration of military, social, and political considerations into his work, reflecting a holistic approach to national security that went beyond mere fortifications. His contributions laid the groundwork for future strategic and philosophical developments in military and civil engineering.
