I think you are misjudging Howard.
I don't think he has played the opportunist role but rather had the courage of his convictions. This I might add is not necessarily always a great attribute and we should be careful of what we wish for in a leader.
Keating was and still is the opportunist. Cunning, without doubt and with great political savvy.
A more untrustworthy man though would be hard to find. Of course I judge his persona because I have not had a one on one discussion with the man.
I have a dislike of Costello for the same reason and this also maybe an unfair judgement.
Perhaps we focus too much on the man and not sufficiently on the party/policies. We all dislike a soppy leader though don't we?
Agree to disagree Dub and I hope you gold portfolio rockets.
