A misleading question.. First of all, Israel must account for the fact that in the period directly after Bibi's re election, the Israeli government was as provocative as humanely possible, raiding the Temple , with Ben Gvir illegally contaminating it with his presence.
They raided , stepped up illegal settlements and land theft, kidnapped and jailed thousands prior to the 7th,
There were reports of rape, the killing of journalists like the American Shireen , several murders of civilians -- all just prior to the 7th.

Second, they need to account for the fact that they left the border wide open -- after all the provocation -- and ignored the invasion itself for 6 hours prior to responding . It is fallacious to believe Hamas was able to penetrate the most heavily guarded border in the world without either assistance or a stand down .

Thirdly, Israel must account for who actually killed all the Jews on the 7th.

The evidence shows hundreds of cars that were filled with fleeing Jews riddled with gunship helicopter munitions, they officially enacted the Hannibal Directive , they went into kibbutz's with tanks -- all with eyewitness testimony by serving IDF members
The IDF said that Hamas attacked military outposts and killed several hundred soldiers , most of the civilians appear to have died at the hands of Israeli's .

So until Israel either accounts for what happened or admits that they are lying, you or no one else has the right to ask a question like that .

Even given a right to retaliation, the force must be proportionate -- tens of thousands of deaths, mostly women and children , and hundreds of thousands of permanent injuries is hardly proportionate, it is ethnic cleansing or genocide.
Not to mention the barbaric and inhumane way Palestinians are treated in general -- rape camps, daily raids and murders , kidnappings --many on a daily basis for probably 50 years running . All fully documented.
Reformulate the question after accounting for that, otherwise the question is totally irrelevant and misleading
