I see Rudd has quit as Foreigh Minister. You have to take your hat off to him; he is a player. My guess is that he (a) makes her look un-PMish, (2) that he will tell the party he is going to resign in the hope that they beg him to come back and (3) if they don't he really will resign and will bring down Gillard with him.
