You have a strong belief that climate change is real and that it will have deadly effects on the world. How you go from that position to thinking a carbon dioxide tax is the best way to go and will lessen the temperature rise, lessen the sea level rise, and save the glaciers I do not know. As I say it is your belief.
I am just looking at the economic and risk management issues of this tax. And anyway you look at it, it is a bad tax. Will the Liberal policy produce a better outcome eg. less temp rise, sea level rise etc. who knows?
But what I do know is the current tax is due to come in on July 1. It will cost billions of dollars for zero improvement in the reduction of temperatures etc. It will cost billions and billions more than any Liberal policy and hence why I think, and many others do as well, that it poses a greater economic and sovereign risk.
