I did not say coaches did not have a say.
However the coaches do not have the time to scout and monitor young players in the minor leagues which is why they the recruiting and list managers to do it mostly for them.
GWS is where they are today because they got first choice of the young guns and they been developed and managed well.
Still cannot draw a decent crowd to the footy though..
