here is a quote from Ken Talbot, who calls for cooperation in developing the infrastructure to get our coal exports up and running, avoiding the mistakes made in the past. Lets hope we can get it right this time. Good on you , Ken.
"•In summary, can I reiterate the reasons we need to expand our infrastructure and the
importance of the issues I have discussed.
•Queensland has a wonderful opportunity to further enhance its reputation as a reliable
supplier of quality coals to the world. This opportunity will be compromised if we can’t
meet the challenge of providing sufficient infrastructure to meet demand.
•To meet this challenge, the industry, infrastructure providers and Government need to
work cooperatively.
•We need to be innovative and develop systems with spare capacity and flexibility to
ensure we can meet the needs of our customers.
•We need to review our ‘fruit salad’ approach to ownership and decision making of our
infrastructure assets.
•We need to consider greater flexibility in our economic models to ensure that we can
expedite expansions and ensure that capacity is developed in advance of demand and not
following demand.
•We need to take a long term view on coal trade – there may be short term fluctuations,
but the long term trend for growth is very positive and we should focus on ensuring
Queensland supplies are able to meet that demand."
