I don't know much about shorting, but I would have thought that at current prices they only have 5 cents to gain, yet are exposed to many multiples of that if/when VPG bounces. Thus, the economics are not particularly attractive. Also, serious shorters would struggle to get set in volume to make serious money...remembering they deal in millions, not thousands.
I would be more focused on impact of index funds exiting over this next week with S&P rebalance.
