I see the point of comparing our government to a business model. Rudd at the moment is in the process of releasing his latest product to benefit us all, carbon trading. Government business is doing just fine! No factories required just law and paper work in place and legislated.
The idea of tax is to benefit the people.
Issues of supplying consumer style product and services generally are the business of companies that wish to make a quid from what they do. They will and have been responding to this demand.
For example there is no shortage of TV's and white goods at Harvey Norman... where business wants to they will make it happen. Same goes for our resources, the response to demand is well underway. In fact the restrictions at ports which have added to the rise in prices are the catalyst to encourage and justify further development.
