    Great thread.

    But what I don't see is any discussion on how the split would work in favour, or not, of shareholders.

    There have been a lot of companies splitting in two, CSR is going to, and in each of these cases the existing shareholders got shares in the new company. Plus the parent also passes a majority of the debt into the new one.

    When you look at the stats more and more people (me included) are cancelling their fixed home phones (rental+adsl+call costs) and moving to mobile (plan+bigpond or datapack) and finding that you actually save money. So losing that part of the buisness should not be a bad thing.

    So if Telstra does this carefully it should be able to win out of this, and so should we??
