Key points from AFR 10/1/12, p13, 'Key US wine sales decline for Treasury!'
In the 13 weeks to December 10, the volume of Twe's US sales fell by 5% and the value fell by 6%. In the same period the US wine sales increased by 5% in value and 2% in volume. Twe's US sales have been falling since mid-2009 with the company's Beringer Californian collection falling by 11% and Rosemount falling by 21%
Twe has been repositioning its US retail strategy in response to falling US sales. The company's strategy misfired as US retailers simply dumped its wines!!
There are also serious concerns regarding the oversupply of grapes within the Australian wine market.
