Sometimes it's valid to be scared out of a stock. I've held two in spite of the scary signs, while they flew into the ground. I've bailed on at least three that subsequently crashed with no survivors.
Peter Lynch's statement only makes sense if you never pick a dud.
I could equally say "the real key to making money on stocks is not to fall in love with them".
