when I was 8yo, I excelled both athletically & intellectually . 1st in the class at school. 1st in the municipality over 70 metres sprint. and I did not even play sport then. I just won the once a year foot race at school (against all of the Aussie kids that played sport)

that said, the kids are simply doing what their parents are telling them to do, like most kids (but unlike myself, that never blindly followed my parent's wishes)
