Hi there , I had a good laugh reading this thread, and would like to contribute 2 observations from my life.

The kids that "outscore their peers on academic and social tests", may do so because they have their heads buried in books at school as they wont socialise with those in the playground. Playing with other kids is where you learn your 'pecking' order in life.

I read the article , and it is the end of the sentence where the 'alarm' bells should start ringing ...

"Compared with a group of control adolescents born to heterosexual parents with similar educational and financial backgrounds, the children of lesbian couples scored better on academic and social tests and lower on measures of rule-breaking and aggression."

" (scored)... lower on measures of rule-breaking and aggression"

To me that means angry undisciplined kids at home , because they haven't got that threat of Dad coming home with the belt. I say threat because my father never hit me , but he had a big belt hanging on the door that was used by Mum as a 'tool' to keep discipline.

My second observation is as an employer of men in the workforce. Sure it's not everyones cup of tea , but I was in civil constructions for many years. That is earth works and concrete formwork mainly for new and existing minesites around the country and PNG.
After a few years you can pick the workers who were bought up by a mother and no father. When a group of men are standing around talking , at crib breaks , or at the pub , invariably the conversation turns to talking about women.
The single mum 'kids' never laughed or joined in and would slink into the background. They mostly did not know they were doing this, and being human nature I would find out why. They thought it was outrageous to be talking about women in that way.
I found the worst workers were sportsmen ,academic achievers , and body builders. The best workers were the ones who as kids had a paper round , night fill jobs , or any casual job while at school .
I have noticed the non academic achievers in life are the ones with a wife , kids , house , boat and live in suburbia quite contented.
That is my rant , and can't speak for men in integrated workforce, or office types, or any activity other than the male dominated one I was in.
I have tried to think of ways this post may be misinterpreted before posting .. yes the workers I refer to were discriminated against , and weeded out as unsuitable to be working on outback construction sites.
What is the purpose of my post ? .. To suggest mothers to steer their sons away from male dominated workforce , as they will be found out and branded as 'different'.
Am I a dinosaur and of no significance , and are things different now? .. perhaps.
All quotes are from article: http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn19014-children-of-lesbian-parents-do-better-than-their-peers.html

P.S. .. interesting picture at article site of young boy swinging between arms of 2 mothers .. with caption " Kid lucked out"
