Sounds reasonable to me - although we would discipline them and wait for 5 mins or so and then say goodnight as do not want the last action of the day to be discipline. Ours are 7,5,3.

As to violence against kids as suggested by some posters I have seen parents do this when they are out and you can see the anger in the parents faces and that the violence is for their own satisfaction. Makes me sick. Suspect a lot of them hit their partners too.
