My children all thought that as a parent I was strict, there were boundaries, not to be crossed. The best advise I received before I came a parent came from a very wise lady, " you're children don't need you to be their best friend, they will have their friends, your role is to love, protect and nurture your children"

Now that 2 of them have children of their own, I laugh when they say to me, mum, I can hear myself repeating what you used to say to us.

At the end of the day all you wish for them is health and happiness. Its the hardest job in the world, but the most rewarding.
