Mental health has always been poorly funded. It takes months to see a psychiatrist. The only way family can get a sick family member to be seen earlier is to call a mental health crisis team or police and exaggerate the problem - make them sound like they are a danger to themselves or others.What families are doing. Sadly it's come to that. General health is not much better nowadays. The health system has gone to the dogs.
