LNG announcement today included
" the Minister for Petroleum and Energy in PNG wants early commercialization of the gas fields which lie between the Highlands and PNG South Coast"

"Mosaic holds a 28.57% interest in the Kimu gas field discovered in January 1999. The Kimu 1 well lies in the flat Papuan foreland and is situated proximal (100 km) to the proposed PNG-to-Queensland pipeline route.

The structure holds 3P recoverable reserves in the order of 1 trillion cubic feet of gas, and the Kimu 1 well has the potential to flow at rates in excess of 100 million cubic feet of gas per day.

In early 2003 the PRL 8 retention licence was awarded to the Joint Venture for a 5-year period and the Joint Venture is now examining marketing alternatives. For example, Itochi Bank and Mitsubishi Chemicals together with the Kimu JV are currently researching the feasibility of using the Kimu gas field for methanol production.

Mosaic has surrendered its other exploration interests in Papua New Guinea and currently holds no assets in PNG outside the Kimu gas field Retention Licence.
