The 200kW x 4 hour vanadium redox flow battery on King Island has been recommissioned and has been running for several weeks to confirm full operation capability.
The re-commissioning was carried out by PCE's Australian staff who have extended their ability to build and operate batteries in the future.
My next hope is to hear encouraging words from Tas Hydro as their confidence in the battery is rebuilt. Remember that Tas Hydro is transforming itself into a world-scale renewable energy builder and operator with substantial interests in China.
As a side note, I have been playing with the HOMER electrical grid/generation optimisation program from NREL in the USA. Using the flow battery option on small and King Island sized minigrids shows that renewable energy (wind turbines mainly) are practically demanded as the diesel price rises above $1.20/litre.
I have had my presents early!
