Cousin of man accused over Kelly death also faces murder charge

A cousin of the man accused of killing the Sydney teenager Thomas Kelly is facing a murder charge for an unrelated crime - stabbing a teenager in western Sydney 18 months ago.

Corrie Kevin Loveridge, 19, also known as Corey Loveridge, is charged with the murder of a 17-year-old in the early hours of December 1, 2010.

The teenage victim was walking with two of his older brothers along Maple Street in North St Marys about 3.20am, heading for a 24-hour service station, when an argument allegedly began with two males.

Police allege that during the argument, ''one of the males produced a knife, stabbing the deceased numerous times''.

The teenager, from Tregear in Sydney's west, died before arriving at Nepean Hospital.

Corrie Loveridge, who had turned 18 the previous month, is charged with murder, along with a friend who was only 17 at the time so cannot be identified.

They were found and charged by the homicide squad.

Mr Loveridge's case returns to Penrith Local Court tomorrow, for what the Herald understands is a one-day, pre-trial hearing. In a newspaper report of the incident two days afterwards, one of the victim's brothers said they made the trip to the late-night service station at least once a week and had never before had an issue.

Mr Loveridge is the cousin of Kieran Loveridge, 18, who was arrested on Wednesday evening and charged with the murder of Thomas Kelly. The boys' mothers are sisters, police said.

Mr Kelly was allegedly ''king hit'' by Kieran Loveridge shortly after he arrived in Kings Cross about 10pm on July 7.
