    compliance neutrality will suggest 'no surcharge' rule provides bnpl players like apt with an unfair advantage.

    I remain on the fence as both sides have strong case.

    apt, zip will argue that their online platform generates sales leads for merchants ...and so merchants may be happy with 'no surcharge rule' as bnpl generates greater sales for their business.

    but merchants operating on lower sales volume, paper thin margins may want the choice to atleast pass on the cost to consumers

    given the rba, government has no real appetite to depress consumer spending, they may look at 'opt out' approach for merchants.

    ie merchants will be free to apply the surcharge cost, but need to be a realist here...if bnpl players are driving increased sales for merchants then expect 'referral fee' to be applied...

    as a merchant myself, I'm not going to bother passing on the surcharge fee as the net gain to my business is still positive
