    I could not disagree more. It raised $40B to buy Potash, no worries at all.

    The $14B in announcements will be spent over the next 3 years.
    (certainly, $6.2B has gone in share buyback and $2.7B in dividends, and $5B in chesapeke) That consumes that cash as at 30 Dec. But by 30 June another $10B cash would have turned up.

    Remember, BHP is generating about $20B of free cash flow that year, and forecast to do the same or more next year.

    So it could borrow the money, buy WPL and use the cash flow to pay it off.

    IMO, BHP might buy the Shell stake, but would not overpay for WPL. i.e. get a blocking position nad just sit on it and bide it's time.
